Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.


Author Guidelines

Guidelines for submission:

· Submissions should be either one and a half or double-spaced and in 12 point font.

· Submissions should be between 4000 and 6000 words.

· All citations should be in-text rather than footnotes or endnotes, and follow the following format: (name, year page/s). E.g. (Russell, 1905 480).

· Quotations should be in double quotation marks (“,”). Quotations of four lines or more should be indented along both the right and left margins.

· Submissions should be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 150 words and a set of key words describing the topic(s) of the paper.

· Submissions should be prepared for blind review. The article should contain no self-identifying references.

Bibliographic entries should be formatted as per the following examples, in alphabetical then chronological order:

Journal articles:

Russell, B. (1905) “On Denoting,” Mind, 14, pp. 479-493.

Book sections:

Quine, W. V. O. (1953) "Two Dogmas of Empiricism" in From a Logical Point of View, Harvard University Press, Cambridge, pp. 20-46.

Sections from edited collections, anthologies etc:

Russell, B. (1905) "On Denoting" in The Philosophy of Language, Ed, Martinich, A. P. 3rd Edition, Oxford University Press, New York, pp. 199-207.

Collections with more than one editor:

Kaplan, D. (1989) "Demonstratives" in Themes From Kaplan, Eds, Almog, J., Perry, J. and Wettstein, H. Oxford University Press, Oxford, pp. 481-564.

For collections with more than three editors, “et. al” should follow the third editor’s name.


Kripke, S. (1972) Naming and Necessity, Basil Blackwell, Oxford.

Translated books:

Wittgenstein, L. (1953) Philosophical Investigations, Tr. Anscombe, G. E. M. Blackwell, Oxford.


Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. All URL addresses in the text (e.g., are activated and ready to click.
  4. The text is one and a half spaced or double spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. The text, if submitted to a peer-reviewed section (e.g., Articles), has had the authors' names removed. If an author is cited, "Author" and year are used in the bibliography and footnotes, instead of author's name, paper title, etc. The author's name has also been removed from the document's Properties, which in Microsoft Word is found in the File menu.
